I'm suspecting the illustrators at Der Spiegel also read the excellent Strange Maps blog.

In practice i'm tempted to doubt such originality.
And in private i'm convinced the artist has "poured from the same well". Whatever, fortunately this
illustration works.
My mum once sent me a similar looking postcard of Dublin some years ago, I suspect the interesting New Yorker design is oft copied.
